At Rehab Medical, we are committed to advancing the careers of our employees while ensuring that our patients receive the highest level of care. One of the most significant ways we do this is through the Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) Certification Program. This program is designed to equip our employees with the skills and knowledge to make a real impact.

What is the ATP Certification Program?

The ATP Certification Program is a training program tailored to meet the unique needs of Rehab Medical. Developed by industry experts like Rusty Mattingly, who has been with Rehab Medical since 2017, the program offers a structured pathway for employees to gain clinical understanding to prepare for the RESNA ATP certification examination.

Certified occupational therapist and ATP Rusty Mattingly played a pivotal role in creating this program. His experience establishing seating clinics and providing timely solutions to patients emphasizes the importance of this certification program. The program, which is unique to Rehab Medical, was initially beta-tested in Kentucky and has since expanded nationwide, benefiting rural communities like those in the Appalachians, where access to specialized care is minimal.

The ATP Certification Program is divided into several key components:

  • Self-Study and Virtual Training: The program is designed to be completed over three months, featuring a combination of self-study and virtual training sessions. These sessions are scheduled to accommodate committed learners, with early morning forums that Rusty leads twice weekly.

  • Eligibility Requirements:  Candidates must meet specific educational and experience criteria to be eligible for the ATP Certification. For example, those with a high school diploma or GED need 6,000 hours of patient contact, while those with a bachelor's degree require two years of patient experience. Continuing education units (CEUs) are also vital to the program, with recommended courses available through accredited providers like VGM.

Certified ATPs at Rehab Medical are instrumental in delivering complex rehab technology to patients who need it most. They also have the potential to increase their earning power significantly. The first ten employees from the operations side who obtain their ATP certification are eligible for a special $10,000 bonus, thanks to a $100,000 pledge from our leadership.

Three recent success stories highlight the program's impact:

ree

Graham Boone: A sales representative with a nursing background and passion for patient care, Graham successfully completed the ATP program and has already begun applying his skills in the field.

ree

Jordan Jackson:  Another standout, Jordan, leveraged his medical background to pass the ATP exam and is now working closely with patients to deliver customized mobility solutions.

Sarah Steel: Moved from the position of service tech to ATP support – demonstrating that no matter what your current position is, there is opportunity for you to advance your career.

Investing in your ATP certification is a valuable step toward advancing your career. This certification not only enhances your professional skills but also empowers you to make a meaningful impact on the lives of those we serve. With Rehab Medical’s reimbursement program covering half of the $900 exam fee, now is the perfect time to take the next step!

Our ATP Prep Bootcamp, led by Rusty, is designed to set you up for success with a comprehensive study plan:

  • Month 1: Start strong with the VGM Course, a foundational program for just $275.

  • Month 2: Deepen your knowledge by exploring RESNA Position Papers, covering essential concepts and guidelines.
